ConeTec operates Electric Vane Shear Testing (EVST) systems for the in-situ measurement of undrained shear strength (Su) in fine grained soils and mine tailings.
Features
Can be deployed with any drilling system, either on land or on water
The torque measurement may be positioned down hole immediately behind the vane, eliminating any rod friction effects
Computer controlled rotation motor ensures precise rate of rotation
Geared, electric motor system rotates the rods at a constant operator controlled rate
Advantages
The EVST has a proven track record as an extremely accurate tool for measuring Su compared to manually operated techniques
Automated system ensures a high quality and repeatable result
Far exceeds the requirements of ASTM D2573
Excellent resolution (0.05 kPa or less)
Applications
Excellent for profiling shear strength when used in combination with the CPTu or full flow penetrometer
Site specific correlations are frequently developed by carrying out adjacent CPTu soundings and EVST boreholes
